Full-Time Insecurity |

There is a casino which will likely open in the near future. It is near Highway 50 on the drive up from Sacramento and the Bay Area - our lifeline. If this casino takes any of our business, Management will be looking at cutting yet more costs. Full-Time Dealers cost more than Part-Time dealers. Look no further than the previous layoffs to see who risks the most without a Contract. This is likely the best ticket for your security. If we have a Contract, there will be guarantees. Unfortunately, there is no Contract now. The only guarantee in our Employee Handbook is that there are no guarantees. Maintaining a large percentage of part-time employees erodes the security of full-time employees as well. For one, having nearly half of all dealers on part-time or on-call status makes those with company-provided medical insurance feel lucky to have it. Also, it provides a threat of ready replacements for full-time employees. Newer employees quickly learn that part-time means one positive thing for our employer: no medical insurance costs. Many of us feel that, if Harrah’s could, they would not have a single one of us employed as a full-time worker with benefits. Protect yourself. |
