Short Timers |
|
The term "Short Timer" can refer to both ends of the spectrum as it relates to time spent with Harrah's. Most of us view this term as somebody who has worked for the company for many years and is on the brink of retirement. Many are within a couple years of retirement, and just want to protect what they've got. If we don't all stand up, younger dealers will not be in the same situation in which you find yourselves. Help those coming up behind you to be provided with a better chance at being able to retire without being dependent on Social Security. If you've been loyal to Harrah's all of this time, understand that not even its CEO, Gary Loveman, puts Harrah's interests first. His purchase of a stake in the Celtics came with a string attached from the NBA: no Celtics games could be wagered upon at any Harrah's sports book. Consequently, we no longer book bets on Celtics games, all for one of Mr. Loveman's personal endeavors. At the other end of the spectrum, the term "Short Timer" sees you as a "Lump." You may not realize it, but this Union drive affects you most. None of us who have been here for years originally planned on it. Ask around. It just happened. Things used to be better, but the benefits of this job keep slipping away. The best way to insure that you will have a legitimate say about your issues is by standing together with us. Lack of medical insurance, wage freezes, reduced 401K - they do not seem like much on each paycheck, but it adds that up over the years, and it is the difference between retirement and working until you drop. |
