Mandatory Meetings Instead of these meetings, why not DEBATE TWU? |
|
Why did it take one President and two Vice Presidents to present the meetings? It should only take one moderately skilled speaker to present the limited information and vast quantity of misinformation that Harrah's Union busters prepared. Instead, we had executive overload. They lied to you. Our "representatives" misled us, and by all indications, they will continue to distort and misrepresent the facts. Typically, employees in anti-Union meetings like ours are watched like lab rats to help Management determine individual stances on the Union. Every person who speaks up is noticed, regardless of the Dealer's response or question. They notice who is quiet. They want to know where you stand on the issue. They want to know where and on whom to focus. If you make negative comments about the Union, then they take note of you as being somebody who will probably be on Management's side. If you start asking legitimate questions about Harrah's or TWU, they take note of that as well. Meetings are isolated into smaller groups for several reasons. Included among them is to intimidate and instill fear. Those with pro-Union leanings feel more isolated, and those with anti-Union thoughts feel safe to speak up. They go so far as to make claims of what dealers said in other meetings. If we were all to attend one large open meeting, there is too great of a risk of Dealers asking intelligent questions for which they have no response. If any Dealer asks a difficult question in smaller meetings, it is isolated. Outside of that small group, nobody else watches Mr. President painfully scramble to produce words that he wants you to believe. We can expect more meetings. Remember that it is Harrah's that forces this situation on us, not us or TWU. What was that sheet that you signed? They asked you to sign in, but how many of you actually read what you were signing? Harrah's told us to beware of what we were signing on our TWU cards, but they had us nonchalantly sign into the meeting without even explaining exactly to what we were signing our names. Did you sign a blanket statement that gave Harrah's Power of Attorney? For all many of us know, we may have. |
